Profound Realisation
The most intense emotions simply have no words to describe them. All love gets in the dictionary is a trite
A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness.
A feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person with whom one is disposed to make a pair; the emotion of sex and romance.
Sexual passion.
Sexual intercourse.
A love affair.
An intense emotional attachment, as for a pet or treasured object.
A person who is the object of deep or intense affection or attraction; beloved. Often used as a term of endearment.
An expression of one's affection: Send him my love.
A strong predilection or enthusiasm: a love of language.
The object of such an enthusiasm: The outdoors is her greatest love.
Love Mythology. Eros or Cupid.
often Love Christianity. Charity.
Sports. A zero score in tennis. --> I always find this funny!
They're basically superfluous distinctions. The Greeks differentiate between filial, religious, romantic love, but I've never really understood the need. It really is a social construction that we cannot mate with anyone of the opposite sex, like animals do. There's a different system of organisation here, and probably a nice useful one too, but one that's esentially manmade. Hence we have all these exceptions and 'anomalies' like incest, rape etc. It's like our social systems are based on a fear of attraction. (And I'm no saying this social organisation sholdn't be there - it's healthy and a way for our society to maintain healthy gene pools). For me, the greatest and only true difference is that between ishq and mohabbat. And again they're two sides of the same coin.
Avoiding digression again, my point is that words try, but dont really succeed in exploring the gamut of emotions, the sensation of love, both physical/mental/hormonal/messy/painful/intense/angry/melting.
Take envy, if you want a negative emotion: here again:
A feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions or qualities of another.
The object of such feeling: Their new pool made them the envy of their neighbors.
Obsolete. Malevolence.
The sensation is lacking. And hence rendered indescribable except in similes and metaphors.
I guess that why the really enduring emotions also transcend translation.

Maybe, you should reading more Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Excellent idea!!! You solved my quandary! Next up, One Hundred Years of Solitude!
Cant wait to fall in love someday
Start with "Chronicle of a Death Foretold", and then to "One Hundred Years of Solitude". "Chronicle..." is real short and strong - warm up for "One Hundred......" is for long haul.
Adrasteia,
You haven't yet???? There isn't much difference between infatuation and love except for the duration and the dealing with the difficulties in the relationship. It's the most indecribable awful amazing feeling in the world.
Thanks Kush... will borrow Chronicle today itself.
